Introduction

Have you ever noticed in the Bible that there are certain things that Jesus receives, or acquires, from God? I will mention some passages that I know and leave a brief conclusion that comes to mind when I stop to reflect on these passages. In total, there are 14 things that Jesus received from the Father.

The 14 Things Jesus Received from the Father

The works to be done

John 5:36 – “But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me

Being the head of the church

Ephesians 1:22 – “…and gave him as head over all things to the church

Prince and Savior

Acts 5:31 – “Him God exalted with his right hand to be Prince and Savior, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins

Lordship and Messianity

Acts 2:36 – “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ

Authority / Power

Matthew 28:18 – “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth

Life in itself

John 5:26 – “For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son also to have life in himself

The revelations

Revelation 1:1 – “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants things which must shortly take place; and he sent and signified it by his angel to his servant John

Power to exercise judgment

John 5:27 – “And he has given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of Man

The millennial government

1 Corinthians 15:23-28 – “But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then those who are Christ’s at his coming. Then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to God, even the Father, when he has put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all enemies under his feet. Now the last enemy that will be put down is death, for he has put all things under his feet. But when he says, ‘All things are put under him’, it is clear that he is excepted who put all things under him. And when all things are put under him, then the Son himself will also be put under him who put all things under him, that God may be all in all

The kingdom

Luke 22:29 – “And I appoint you to the kingdom, as my Father appointed it for me

All things

John 3:35 – “The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand

The power to rule the nations

Revelation 2:27 – “And he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to pieces: even as I received of my Father

The governments of heaven and earth

Ephesians 1:20-21 – “Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come

The subjection of all things

Ephesians 1:22 – “And he put all things under his feet…

Conclusion

Through these passages we can see that God granted some things to Christ. It is interesting to note that such passages reveal God’s sovereignty over Jesus, also showing the existence of a clear distinction between the two and the position that each one occupies in the universe.

God is the Father of Christ, and Christ is the Son of God. We often have difficulty realizing this truth because we have learned erroneous concepts from God’s Word. When we see that Christ receives all these things, it is because there is One who is above Him. The works to be done, the power and dominion, His mission, and the position He holds in the entire universe were all granted to Christ through God, the One who is above all things.

May God bless the reader.
