Introduction
As we study the Scriptures, we find differing perceptions of God’s identity among Christians. But who is the God of the Last Generation of Saints? – Revelation 7:9-10 gives us clues about how those saved in the end times will recognize and worship Him. Will this generation see God as a Trinity or as a single being? How does this view align with biblical teachings and the revelations of Revelation? Throughout this study, we will analyze the descriptions of the last generation saints and their beliefs, seeking to understand to whom they direct their worship in the final moments of human history.
God and Gods
The Christian religion has always taught the existence of one God, unlike most pagan religions. Even so, within the Christian religion itself, we find variations in the definition of the one God. Most Christians, influenced by Catholicism, believe in one God composed of three divine persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Those who believe this way teach that the true God is triune, and deny the divine oneness.
Within this theme, what does the Bible reveal to us about what the last generation of saints here on earth believe? Do they believe in the triune God, or in the oneness of God as being just one person?
Is the interpretation of the numerous texts used by most Christians to defend the triune God correct? If so, we can say that the last generation of those saved on this earth, the one that will live before the return of Jesus, will certainly have this knowledge and will be worshiping the True God. Let us see what the book of Revelation tells us about this subject.
Who is the God of the Last Generation?
Let us read Revelation 7:9-10 concerning the Great Multitude of saved people at the end of time:
Revelation 7:9-10 – “After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, and tribes, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne , and before the Lamb , clothed with white robes , and palm branches in their hands. And they cried out with a loud voice , saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth on the throne , and unto the Lamb.“
Regarding this crowd, the book of Revelation presents this group before the throne and before the Lamb (a reference to Jesus). Verse 10 shows them crying out in a loud voice something very interesting. They cried out to God, saying, “our God” and “to the Lamb“. Notice that this crowd made a clear distinction between God and the Lamb. They did not regard the Lamb as their God, but they regarded someone else as being God, and this person was “seated on the throne“.
The scene of the person sitting on the throne is also presented in chapters 4 and 5. It is interesting to note in both chapters that the heavenly beings also consider only the person sitting on the throne to be their God.
Where Did Those in White Robes Come From?
The text of Revelation 7:13-15 continues saying:
Revelation 7:13-15 – “And one of the elders answered me, saying, Who are these which are arrayed in white robes , and whence came they? And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said unto me, These are they which came out of great tribulation , and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore are they before the throne of God , and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne overshadoweth them.“
Who is the God of the last generation? The verses above show us that this multitude of saved ones are the same ones presented in the verses we read previously (9-10), for they are those with “white robes“. The elder tells the apostle John that they came from “great tribulation“. The “great tribulation” is the period of the last persecution before the Return of Jesus. It is the one that occurred according to the accounts of Revelation 13, where it presents the revelation about the “beast“, “your image“, “your sign” and the “number of your name“. Note that, within this context, Revelation 15:2 also contextualizes the “great crowd” as having experienced the context of Revelation 13:
Revelation 15:2 – “And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name , stand on the sea of glass , having the harps of God.“
Although the above verse does not mention who they were “those who had come out victorious over the beast and his image and his mark and the number of his name“, it is said that such people were “by the sea of glass“. That “sea of glass” is presented in Revelation 4:6 as being “before the throne“.
Revelation 4:6 – “And before the throne there was as it were a sea of glass , like unto crystal. …“
Those who “came out victorious” of Revelation 15:2 were presented as being “by the sea of glass“, and according to Revelation 4:6, the “sea of glass” is found “before the throne“. But in Revelation 7:9-10, the “great crowd” was seen “before the throne“. This makes it clear that Revelation 15:2 refers to the same group presented in Revelation 7:9-10!
Conclusion: Revelation 7
It is very good to know that the saints of the last generation will consider as God only the one who is seated on the throne. The God of these saved people is only one person, not two, nor three, nor 3 in 1!
Do you want to be part of this people? Then let us have as God the same presentation of these saved people! Just as Jesus once said:
John 4:23 – “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.“
