Children of God: Our Identity – 1 John 3:2

1 John 3:2 – “Beloved, now are we children of God, and it has not yet been revealed what we will be. But we know that when he appears, we will be like him, for we will see him just as he is

Our identity as children of God is a powerful truth that transforms the way we live. John reminds us that we are already children of God right now, even if we do not yet fully understand what that means. However, a glorious promise awaits us: when Christ returns, we will be like Him. This hope should fill our hearts with joy and inspire us to live in accordance with our heavenly identity.

The world constantly tries to define who we are based on status, possessions, or achievements. However, the Bible teaches us that our true identity does not come from what we do, but from belonging to God. He has adopted us as His children, loved us first, and guaranteed us a glorious future with Christ. Our identity as children of God gives us security, knowing that we are not defined by our shortcomings or limitations but by the Father’s unconditional love.

Furthermore, this identity calls us to live in holiness. If we are to be like Christ when He returns, we must seek Him daily and allow Him to shape our character. This means abandoning practices that do not reflect God’s will and growing in fellowship with Him. The hope of future transformation motivates us to live purposefully and faithfully today.

So remember who you are in Christ. You are not a stranger to God but a beloved child, called to reflect His glory. Live with that assurance and allow that identity to transform your life.

Prayer: Our Identity as Children of God

Lord, I thank You for calling me Your child. May I live in that identity, reflecting Your love and holiness. Shape me to be more like Christ and strengthen my faith in Your promise. In Jesus’ name, amen.
