Isaiah 8:20 – “To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them“
The light of God’s Word should be our guide in the midst of the darkness of this world. Isaiah teaches us that any teaching or guidance must be in accordance with God’s law and testimony. If something is not in accordance with the Word, it means that there is no light in it. This alerts us to the importance of evaluating all things in the light of Scripture.
Many voices try to guide us: culture, the media, human philosophies, and even religious leaders. However, not all of these voices speak according to God’s truth. Therefore, we need to remember that the light of God’s Word is the only safe reference. When we stray from Scripture, we run the risk of walking in darkness, guided by ideas that do not come from the Lord.
Furthermore, this passage encourages us to know and love the Word. It is not enough to simply listen to superficial teachings. We must study, meditate on, and practice the Scriptures. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He responded to Satan with the Word of God. This teaches us that the best defense against lies is biblical truth.
If we want to live in the light, we must hold fast to the Bible and reject everything that contradicts its teachings. In times of confusion and deception, our hearts must be fixed on the truth. Only then will we be able to discern what comes from God and walk with confidence.
Prayer: The Light of God’s Word
Lord, teach me to trust and live according to Your Word. Give me discernment to recognize what is true and strength to walk in the light. Amen.
