The True Meaning of Life – Ecclesiastes 12:13

Ecclesiastes 12:13 – “Now the conclusion of all that has been heard is this: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man

The true meaning of life is not found in riches, success, or the fleeting pleasures of this world. Many times, we seek to fill our hearts with things that, in the end, do not satisfy. However, Solomon, one of the wisest men who ever lived, left us with valuable advice: we must fear God and obey His commandments. This, according to him, is the duty of every human being. But what does it mean to fear God? This fear is not a paralyzing fear, but rather reverence, respect, and love for the Creator.

The true meaning of life lies in recognizing that we were created by God and for God. Our existence only makes sense when we live according to His will. Unfortunately, many people spend years looking for purpose in the wrong places. They dedicate themselves to work, studies, and the search for recognition, but in the end, they feel an inner emptiness. This happens because the human heart yearns for something eternal, and only God can fill it.

When we obey the Lord’s commandments, we find peace and purpose. It’s not just about following rules, but about living in communion with the One who created us. He knows what’s best for us. Jesus said that those who love Him keep His commandments (John 14:15). This means that obedience is not a burden but an expression of love and gratitude. The true meaning of life is found only in God, in fearing Him, and in obeying His Word.

So, reflect: where have you been looking for the meaning of your life? Are you trying to find it in material goods, pleasures, or personal achievements? Remember that these things are fleeting.

Prayer: The true meaning of life

Lord, I recognize that only in You do I find the true meaning of life. Help me to fear You and obey Your commandments with joy. May my life be guided by Your will, and may I find complete satisfaction in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
